On February 2, 2022, in Aguascalientes, Mexico, our Executive Director William Harvey and Adrian Meléndez, Executive Director of Proyecto Habesha, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to bring Afghan musicians to Mexico, where they will be on track to become Mexican citizens. Proyecto Habesha has seven years’ experience bringing to Mexico refugees from countries ranging from Syria to Venezuela. Since August 15, 2021, Cultures in Harmony has maintained a database of 326 Afghan musicians seeking freedom and security following the violent takeover of Afghanistan by the fiercely anti-music forces of the Taliban; you can learn more about our efforts here. We look forward to working closely with Proyecto Habesha over the coming weeks to bring to Mexico the first group, which will include 6 musicians from our list.
