Since August 15, 2021, we have tried to get to safety and freedom Afghan musicians from a list of 326 people we compiled in the days following the Taliban takeover.
From Sayed Qasem come this message and this haunting cover of the 1954 Bart Howard classic “Fly Me To The Moon,” the Sinatra version of which became associated with the Apollo moon landings….
“Hello Professor! I wish you good health. I watched your concert several times and enjoyed your magical hands. Your kindness to us Afghans is invaluable. I will never forget the help you gave me. It’s been three months now and I’m in Iran and I was saved from the danger of death. Now I’m trying to grow in music so that one day you will be proud of me. I love you.”
You don’t have to fly Afghans to the moon. But if you donate to Cultures in Harmony, we will always do our best to get them to a country where music is legal, where they can sing their hearts out.
